This sounds like the freeradius server is dieing and then the radius
messages are queued up. Can you look in the /var/log/syslog and
/var/log/radiusd (or freeradius something) logs for clues to if freeradius
is dieing and show us the messages?

Try /etc/init.d/freeradius restart next time instead of a reboot and see
what happens. You may find you need to run freeradius in debug mode to work
out why it crashes.

Also, check you have enough ram and disk space. They are common reasons a
crash can occur.
