It appears when using wlan0, it's not even going through the hotspot? 
(10.1.0.1).

Can you check that you can ping the hotspot address from the client 
(defaults to 10.1.0.1) and then do a "dig" on hostnames from the clients 
(assuming linux or mac).

Some more details about your setup, and some logs showing basic 
connectivity through the hotspot would be useful.
