Equipment:
1x sagem 1704 xdsl modem/router (iptv enabled - mod firmware ip:192.168.1.1)
1x tp-link 1043nd router/ap ( Gargoyle 1.60 firmware - based on openwrt
ip:10.1.0.0 ap+wds )
1x tp-link 941nd router/ap ( Gargoyle 1.60 firmware - based on openwrt
ip:10.1.0.1 wds )
1x Ubiquity nano m2 ( Gargoyle 1.60 firmware - based on openwrt 10.1.0.2 -
can be as a universal repeater wds )
All the above ap must have same gateway to work.
In my case 10.1.0.20
Pc that coverted to "Grase Hotspot Server" is ATOM 330 (1.6Ghz - 2gb Ram)
Ubuntu 12.04 pre-installed with gui - no server setup
Mainboard is mini - itx WITH 1x ethernet gb, and 8 usb, so i add a
usb-to-ethernet adapter
as advise of @drazen ( you can see on older posts )
Internal nic connected direct to xdsl modem and detected as eth0
usb-to-ethernet adapter connected to ap 1043nd and detected as eth1
Read carefully details on
http://grasehotspot.org/documentation/hardware-setup/
otherwise addon card not detected correct, and have to add it manually
On graphical install you must install "Tasksel"
sudo apt-get install tasksel
sudo tasksel
Then select and install "lamp server" and " open ssh server "
A paired mac adr to hotspot server is a good stuff so i give 10.1.0.20
This is also the gateway to the above access points and wds devices
Follow tim install guide http://grasehotspot.org/documentation/installation/
Call a web browser and open grase.
Another good stuff is to also install webmin, a free server panel.
See details for install at
http://ubuntuserverguide.com/2012/06/how-to-install-webmin-on-ubuntu-server-12-04-lts.html
After you finish a skin pack is a must : stressfree
http://webmin-theme-stressfree.googlecode.com/files/theme-stressfree-2.10.tar.gz
By default squid is not correct cache so need a little mod
In /etc/squid3/squid.conf uncomment
cache_dir ufs /var/spool/squid3 100 16 256
100 is the cache that squid use, change to what you need and restart
In my case i use 1024 but can be any...
Proxy server can be modified more and used for 100's applications but these
steps dont care at this time
Anyway with the above setup, covers about 500 meters stable full signal,
and all that dont want connected neighboors are staying out!!!
Hehehehe too bad eh?
I will make a few skin packs on my free weeks ( about end of october ) for
grase hotspot and give to tim to make public.
More soon...
Dont contact me direct, any question post here so we can help each other
Tim check your donations please when you got time...
Thank you!
