George,

I know that "Grase hotspot" is just a glueing backoffice/uam between 
several external softwares, like FreeRadius, Squid, DnsMasq and go figure 
.... Coovachili :)

Have you double checked that your "coovachilli alone" setup matchs the 
"grase coovachilli" setup? 

I also run into several problems with grase, because i was missconfiguring 
grase.
