I tried that too and got the same error on Ubuntu 16! But I found out it's
because Ubuntu 16 uses php7 and grase I think was based on php5. So I think
you've got to stick with Ubuntu 14 or uninstall php7 on Ubuntu 16 and
downgrade to php5 to run grade. You might also try to make sure you are
using the correct repository when you are on Ubuntu 16
