Ideally for me, you should stick with Ubuntu 14.01 (lubuntu 14.01 would be
fine too), and use nightlies. I'm hoping to have a stable release out soon,
so that will give you the new features without needing a major upgrade
shortly.

As you can't connect wirelessly, but can with a cable, it suggests a
problem with your wireless hardware setup. Can you give us more information
of the wireless hardware side?
