yes it is exactly pointing at tun0, and tun1 is the openvpn service for 
tim's support.

I did this in my own installation, but still if you think the interfaces 
will change for any reason (and i dont think they will), yes you should, 
but if not, no you wont need to use variables.

I have not set any variables in my installation my self, but i think it's 
viable, but "make sure" writing your own rules does not conflict with any 
of the predefined rules.
