I really think you should try running it standalone, and not in a 
virtual machine. I only run it in a virtual machine, with virtual 
machine clients as well, for testing. For the real world, virtual 
machines can add so much complexity unfortunately.

Linux can dual boot, so if its only for testing, you can make a small 
(4Gb or so) partition and install it in that. Then boot to windows when 
you aren't testing, and boot to linux for testing.
