Hi Jurica

It looks like your VM has an address in the wrong subnet unless you have a 16 bit mask or something. If the host is 192.168.1.x /24 then the bridged vm adaptor should also have the same first three octets. I have found it very difficult in practice to use the wi-fi adaptor to bridge correctly on my version of VmWare workstation. I would also set the second adaptor in your vm to be bridged to your other adaptor. Note that some firewalls and security software make this tricky. On my work laptop I used to be only able to NAT, but since the latest corp mcafee went on I can’t even do that any more.

Your AP if it is properly set up should get an address like 10.1.0.2 if the hotspot is running. Looking at your info, the 10.1.0.1 address should be bound to tun0 not eth 1 I think.

regards

Subject: [GRASE-Hotspot] Vmware hotspot

Hi Tim and anybody that can help.

The situation is beginning to be desperate now... still no hotspot running.

I would like to have a VM Ware setup where i have a windows xp/7 host running vmware. host is using wireless to connect to the main router to gain internet access. the physical nic i have used to plugin a dd-wrt router setup to be just an AP (no dhcp etc)

dd-wrt AP: 192.168.1.1

BT internet router (with dhcp enabled): 192.168.1.254 255.255.255.0

windows host: 192.168.1.64

ubuntu vm :192.168.232.130 (eth0) and 10.1.0.1 (eth1)

vmware is setup to use NAT on one NIC and Bridged Mode on another.

nat (192.168.232.0/255.255.255.0)

bridged mode( set to use the LAN of the host)

when i plugin the dd-wrt ap to the nic on the host machine i do not get an automatic ip address so i set one up (192.168.1.2) (when i do this i loose the internet connectionon host) (surley this should be on dhcp and getting a 10.1.0.x ip address from grase?) if in nic set to dhcp it gets a 169 ip address...

i have setup the ubuntu client (VM) with grase and all is well, i can access the radmin page setup users etc. the client also has access to internet. (if i setup a second vm client i can get to the protal asking for login then browse the internet)

UBUNTU SETUP

interfaces

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

iface eth1 inet manual

if its easier to setup using virtual box im open to that, i would just like to get this thing going.

im a windows user guys and linux knowledge is limited.

thanx in advance JS
